A hymn to nature and life, "The Man Who Planted Trees" is a true ecological manifesto for our 21st
century. Three musicians on stage (clarinet, marimba, accordion) play works by Beethoven, Schubert and Ravel and accompany the actor (and the audience) on his journey in the footsteps of Elzéar Bouffier, the tree-planting shepherd. Giono's text and the music intertwine and feed off each other. The freely moving scores, with their ample rhythm and long, supple melodic development, leave the spectator's imagination free to fly towards Giono's sublime landscapes; in addition to the almost epic aspect, the lyrical breath they can bring to the text, it is above all the fantastical capacities of each individual, intimate that they can summon and thus multiply tenfold the effect of the novel on the spectator. The actor's words and the music take the place of a stage design for this fabulous
ecological novel into a total evocative show!
