Daniel Pennac, born on 1 December 1944 in Casablanca, Morocco, is a French writer. As an adult, he worked as a taxi driver and illustrator, before becoming a secondary school literature teacher in 1969. He was awarded the Prix Renaudot in 2007 for his autobiographical novel Chagrin d'école.
