In the footsteps of Saint Colomban, a monk from Ireland who founded the abbey of Luxeuil-les-Bains, discover the religious heritage of Sainte-Marie-en-Chanois.
From the top of the Saint-Colomban Chapel, take a meditative break and admire the view of the Breuchin valley. Next to the chapel is the grotto, whose ceiling has now collapsed, where the monk liked to retire to pray in solitude.
From the chapel, follow the path towards Amage and then turn right to join the D6. Cross the road, follow the route du Tacot and turn right into the rue Des Champs de la Pierre. Then go up the rue des Champs Pougeot and at the first crow's feet, turn left.
Leave the road to find a steep path that climbs towards the Roche de la Jaunotte. Go up to the rock then retrace your steps and continue on the path for about 200 m.
Leave the path and turn right onto a wide track and continue straight on for about 1 km.
Go down the road to the left, past the hut and after 300m on the left-hand bend, take the path to the right. Walk along the Epée pond and go to the tarmac road. Follow this road on your right for about 400 m and then turn left towards the Saint-Colomban chapel.
After the chapel, climb the path which passes a stone bench. Then go down to the hang-gliding site and turn right into the woods. At the crossroads, continue to the left for a long descent. At the fork in the road turn right and then left and continue for about 500m until you reach the tarmac road.
Go down the road to reach the centre of the village. Cross the road and take the street on the left. At the crossroads, take the path opposite which leads you back to the Saint-Roch chapel.
