Nine ovens were uncovered between 1980 and 1987 by the Groupe de Recherches Archéologiques de Luxeuil (G.R.A.L). They are almost all in an exceptional state of preservation, due in particular to their embedding in the sandstone at the top of the hill. A central heating area, also dug into the rock, opens onto eight of the nine ovens.
The best preserved is the circular oven, which was discovered less than 20 cm below the present floor. This kiln is a fine example of a sigillated pottery kiln (red ceramic decorated with relief motifs). Classified as a historic monument in 1988, the set of nine Gallo-Roman kilns has become a major element of Luxovian archaeological heritage.
The site will be restored in 2023.
