Théâtre : Naïs
AN ODE TO LOVE AND LIFE.
Toine is hunchbacked and suffers from his handicap. He is in love with Naïs, the daughter of a violent peasant. Naïs is in love with Frédéric, a young man from a middle-class family. Summer arrives and the young lovers indulge in pleasures that their social status does not permit...
A world opens up before us, a world of poetry and emotion, and all these characters, with their well-tempered characters, sweep us away in a whirlwind of feelings. This drama by Emile Zola was adapted for the cinema by Marcel Pagnol, and Arthur Cachia adapted it for the stage.
According to Pagnol, there was a "truth in party clothes, which is the truth of people who love each other", he was a "charming liar", a charm without which the things he tells would only be what they are.
He liked to say: "I'm a madman, which means that the fairies have hit me on the head".
